Abstract |
"During his lifetime, Yeap Chor Ee’s role and contributions were sadly left unrecognized. In 1951, Tun Dato Seri Tan Cheng Lock, a key public figure in Malaya, wrote a personal letter to Madam Lee Ching Kin, Chor Ee’s wife. The letter informed her of his intention to recommend to Sir Henry Gurney (British High Commissioner) an award for Yeap Chor Ee as recognition of his service to the country. The award was never conferred as Sir Henry Gurney was assassinated by communist insurgents seven days after the letter was written. Yeap Chor Ee passed away from pneumonia seven months after." - Notes from the donor |
