Brahminy kites are solitary or occur in family parties. However, loose gatherings of up to 26 individuals at roost in Australia, and up to 35 at an abundant insect food source in New Guinea, have been recorded (see Ferguson-Lees & Christie, 2001: 389). In Singapore, the brahminy kite is a common resident that is known to gather to roost on some offshore islands (Yong et al., 2016: 34). The kites in the featured observation were gathering at dusk, so they were most likely settling in to roost for the night.

A single individual of about 5 cm total length was observed among corals

The present example is preserved in the Zoological Reference Collection of the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum at the National University of Singapore (ZRC) and catalogued as ZRC 54636. In Singapore, Pseudomystus leiacanthus is known only from the Central Catchment Nature Reserve and is locally classified as ‘critically endangered’ (Lim et al., 2008: 150). The species is known to attain 59.8 mm in standard length and can be distinguished from its congeners by a broad blackish band over its caudal fin (Lim & Ng, 2008: 45). Although clearly an adult, the present specimen is relatively small and the dark band on the caudal fin is barely discernible.
