In Singapore, Draco quinquefasciatus occurs in the forests of Bukit Timah and Central Catchment Nature Reserves. It is regarded as a locally endangered species that may be threatened by forest degradation (Lim et al., 2008: 169). A recent record from the Mandai area (Serin, 2015) and the present observation show that it is found in young secondary forest.

The flagfin wrasse is often difficult to detect due to its cryptic habits and good camouflage colouration. It is widespread in the Indo-west Pacific from the Red Sea and East Africa eastwards through the East Indian region, the Philippines and Western Australia (Allen & Erdmann, 2012: 717). In Singapore, this species is sometimes encountered in weedy intertidal areas, but it has not been recorded from the Semakau Landfill area (Ng, 2012: 146).
