Abstract |
The hermit crabs of Singapore are relatively well studied in the last few years and 42 species have been reported so far. This paper deals with 31 species of hermit crabs from the families Diogenidae and Paguridae, of which two are described as new: Diogenes pisinnus, new species (Diogenidae), and Pagurus tenuilineatus, new species (Paguridae). Seven species are also newly recorded, Clibanarius ransoni Forest, 1953, Diogenes mixtus Lanchester, 1902, D. spinicarpus Rahayu & Forest, 1995, Pseudopaguristes monoporus (Morgan, 1987), P. hians (Henderson, 1888), Pagurus pitagsaleei McLaughlin, 2002, and P. hedleyi (Lanchester, 1902). Diogenes platyops Rahayu & Forest, 1995, previously synonymised with D. jubatus (Nobili, 1903) is resuscitated based on the live colouration and several morphological characters. Among the specimens identified from the family Diogenidae, the genus Diogenes was the most species-rich with 17 species, while the genera Clibanarius, Dardanus, Paguristes, and Pseudopaguristes were represented only by four, three, one, and two species, respectively. As for the family Paguridae, four species of Pagurus and one species of Spiropagurus, were reported. |

Abstract |
A small collection of pagurid hermit crabs, collected from coral reefs and marine caves on Christmas and Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Indian Ocean Territory of Australia, was studied. The following 11 species, including three new to science, were identified: Eutrichopagurus granulimanus, new species; Kumepagurus noelensis, new species; Micropagurus polynesiensis (Nobili, 1906); Pagurixus carinimanus Komai & Osawa, 2006; P. depressus, new species; P. haigae Komai & Osawa, 2007; P. maorus (Nobili, 1906); P. nomurai Komai & Asakura, 1995; P. tweediei (Forest, 1956); Pylopaguropsis bellula Osawa & Okuno, 2007; and P. keijii McLaughlin & Haig, 1989. At Christmas Island, where the major part of the collection was done, seven of the eight species, including the three new species, are reported for the first time. Four species are recorded from Cocos (Keeling) Islands, of which three species of Pagurixus Melin, 1939, are reported for the first time. The generic assignment of E. granulimanus, new species, is considered provisional, because only the male holotype was available for study, and the original generic diagnosis was based only on female characters. The discovery of K. noelensis, new species, led the authors to reassess the generic assignment of K. kaikata Komai, 2020, for which a new genus Vounopagurus is proposed |

Abstract |
The PANGLAO 2004 expedition in the central Visayas region of the Philippines revealed the occurrence of 43 species of diogenid hermit crabs of the genera Calcinus, Clibanarius, and Dardanus in the Philippines. Using morphological, colour pattern, and mitochondrial DNA evidence, the Dardanus lagopodes (Forskål, 1775) complex is revised with the validation of D. sanguinolentus (Quoy & Gaimard, 1824) and the addition of one new species, Dardanus balhibuon. Eight species represent new records for the Philippine Archipelago. For each reported species, a list of the total number of specimens collected during the expedition is presented, and the geographic range and habitat are discussed. Colour photographs are provided for most species. A checklist of all hermit crab species recorded from the Philippines is presented, and species of these three genera previously reported from the Philippines but not found during the PANGLAO 2004 expedition are discussed. |
